Kenny Weathers and the Emotions
The band was formed in 1988 following a performance at Burtonwood Airbase, where Kenny was based as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army. This was for a freinds' wedding reception and consisted of a group of freinds who lived locally.
This original line up performed many sold out charity shows
during 1990/1991. There was such a demand they decided to go out
on the road as a gigging band under the name 'the Kenny Weathers
Band'
In December 1992 the band was awarded the 'Preston and District
Cabaret Band of the Year' and performed to a packed house at the
Guild Hall in Preston.
The band became 'Kenny Weathers and the Emotions' in 1994 and went through several line up changes between 1994 to 1998 before arriving at the current settled line up .
In 1995 the band headlined the St.Helens Town Show. This show was so successful the band were invited back in 1996 to the same response. A full diary prevented a further performance in 1998.
1997 saw the band perform to a capacity audience at St.Helens Rugby League Clubs' Knowsley Rd Stadium for the televised home-coming of the victorious team.
1998 saw a further television performance for the band with
Liverpool Radio D.J's Billy Butler and Wally Scott (Magic 1548)
on Cable TV's Channel 1, a show that ran for three consequtive
nights, and also included an exclusive 5 minute interview with
Kenny, filmed at RAF Burtonwood where the band was formed.
Billy and Wally invited the band to perform to a capacity
audience at Pontins Holiday Centre at Ainsdale,Southport on a
weekend special which also included the legendary Motown
recording artist, Jimmy Ruffin (what Becomes of the Broken
Hearted)
(The band are to perform again at Pontins for Billy and Wally on
another weekend special in December 1999)
The band perform for a wide variety of venues, from Cabaret Clubs to Night Clubs,Corporate Functions and Wedding Receptions.
Kenny likes to involve the audience in the show (check out the 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' routine from the film 'Full Monty' where an unsuspecting female member of the audience is coaxed on stage donning Kenny's old US Army Dress Uniform whilst standing on a chair...guaranteed to get the camera flashes going!) 100 mile radius of Warrington.
