THE FOUR by FOUR STRING QUARTET

We are a group of string players based in Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland, who have been playing together now for over a year.

We are all members of, and originally met through, Aberdeen's reputable string ensemble Concordia.

Since forming Four by Four, we have played for a number of weddings, corporate functions, dinners, garden parties, and concerts.

We have an extensive and varied repertoire ranging from popular classics to light hearted rags and jazz, ideal for accompanying any event.

From left : Tim, Jane, Vanda and Hazel

Here we are at Pitmedden Gardens in Aberdeenshire,
having played for a Strawberry Tea for the National Trust of Scotland.

'STAR' 1ST VIOLIN
Hazel Hutchison  MA (Soon to be Dr Hutchison)

Hazel is currently  finishing her PhD thesis in English Literature at the University of Aberdeen. She hopes to finish the work by the end of the year.

She grew up in Glasgow but has lived in Aberdeen for 8 years with her husband and young daughter, Carrie.

Hazel took up the violin when whe was very young, inspired by her Mother, who is also an accomplished violinist. As a school pupil, Hazel played in all of the youth groups in central region, including the Strathclyde Youth Orchestra. At University in Edinburgh, she continued her hobby by playing in the University Orchestra and String Ensembles. More recently, Hazel played with the All Souls Orchestra from London.

Hazel is a keen tennis player and plays regularly between studying and looking after her family. A good host, our 'rehearsal' nights of pizza and "Friends" videos have become a regular event!

'AMAZING' 2ND VIOLIN
Vanda Mazzoleni BEd MUS Hons

Vanda is a full time Music Teacher with Aberdeen Council teaching primary and secondary pupils within the Aberdeen City area. She also teaches privately to a number of children and adults.

With a name like Vanda's you'd expect her roots to be from the continent, but in actual fact she was born in Dundee and spent her high school years in Kirkcaldy, Fife!!! Mazzoleni comes from her husband, Marino, who is from Milan in Italy

She studied Music and Education at The Northern College of Music, and graduated in 1996. During her course Vanda studied piano as well as the violin and also learned to play steel pans and was an active member of the College's Jamaican Steel Band!

A devoted Dundee United Football Club supporter, Vanda enjoys cheering on her team on a Saturday.

'COOL' VIOLA
Jane McCormack  BA Hons DipM

Jane works in the Marketing Department of an International Engineering Company and takes pride in having created this web site!!

Originally from Kirkcaldy, she obtained her undergraduate degree in Business Studies from the Robert Gordon University in 1996. Her first job was in the Sales and Marketing department of a Bio technology firm exporting test kits for the detection of infectious diseases (I won't name which ones!) but she has been back in Aberdeen for over a year.

Over the years, Jane has played in a number of orchestra's including Fife Region's school's orchestras, the preparatory school for The National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland, the Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society, Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra and now Concordia.

Apart from Music, Jane's other interests include snowboarding where she has holidayed in Tignes, in the French Alps for the past 2 years to improve her technique. She is past the beginner stage now and manages to stay upright on the board for longer! No broken bones yet!!!!
