BIOGRAPHY

HELEN DUFFY has established an international reputation as both flautist and violinist, and is in constant demand as a soloist, chamber musician and tutor in both capacities.

She was the winner of the South East Arts ~~ Young Musicians' Platform winner of the Royal Overseas League Competition and the youngest national finalist in the first Shell London Symphony Orchestra Music Scholarship.

After leaving the GuiIdhall School of Music and Drama, where she won the Guidhall First Silver Medal for the most outstanding pupil, Helen gave debut recitals at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, receiving unanimous critical acclaim. Since then, she has worked in a freelance capacity on both instruments throughout the world.

She has performed and broadcast in England (Radio 3 and 4; BBC and Independent TV; Harrogate, Bath, Windsor, Henley, Barbican, City of London and Aldeburgh Festivals) and in Ireland, Italy, Sicily, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, the Azores Islands, Norvay and Poland. She has also made compact disc recordings on the Meridien, USK and Numerica labels and a CD of the Brandenburg concertos is due for release.

Helen is principle flute and artistic advisor to the exciting new Apollo Chamber Orchestra, whose first CD recording won the Music Retailer's Association prize for the most outstanding chamber orchestra recording in 1994. She has also recently been appointed Artistic Director to the beautiflil, newly renovated Theatre Royal in Margate.

Helen has some eighteen years teaching experience of the flute, violin and piano at all levels of advancement, and is particularly interested in all educational aspects of music. She is one of the youngest examiners to be appointed to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and has undertaken many examining tours of Great Britain and the Far East.

The Danesfield Quartet

Specializes in providing string/flute quartet music for recitals, receptions, banquetsand private functions.
It has a wide repertoire including classical and light music which can be adapted to any occasion.
The players have worked extensively within all areas of the proffesion, including T.V., broadcasting and recording.
