Spootiskerry

An exciting new piece ceilidh band with we are four women; fiddle, keyboard, flute and guitar from America, Ireland, England and, of course, Scotland, influencing Scottish Ceilidh music as never heard before.

Spootiskerry comprises of seven multitalented, multinational and thoroughly fun-loving musicians whose main objective is to perform Celtic dance music of the highest quality for any event. Although specialising in mainly Scottish and Irish traditional tunes and dances, we also have in our repertoire a lovely selection of dances from other lands which Oonagh, our delightful caller, will talk you through easily and with a great deal of enjoyment! The band as a whole are utterly commited to having fun and it's out hope that you too can let your hair down on the night!

Musically, Spootiskerry's members perform at the highest level. Each one adds his or her own quality to the overall sound of the band, resulting in a tight, rhythmical sound to carry  you through the night. Here, for your interest, is a rundown of each band member:

Kathy Stewart. As a professional musician, Kathy's sassy guitar playing may be due to her American blood, but whatever the reason, she adds pure New York rhythm to the band with her spectacular strumming.

Mary Gristwood. A champion Irish fiddler, Mary's playing flows like only an Irish style would allow. She is one of the Borders' best musicians.

Lesley McLaren. The only true Scot in the band, Lesley's flute and whistle playing weaves its way throught he music, adding an extra texture to the overall sound of the band.

Joy Fuller. Joy's keyboard playing could only be described as 'seriously funky'. Her vamping adds tremendous backbone to the band's sound.

Marie Louise Flavin. Although only a slip of a girl at 17, Marie Louise's Irish roots certainly contribute to her beautiful fiddle playing.

Oonagh McGarry. Firm but fun, Oonagh will guide you through every dance with ease. Also of Irish descent, she doesn't hesitate in using the 'hands-on' approach if the going gets tough!

We hope this introduction to our band helps you in your search for the best entertainment for your event. If it's a traditional Ceilidh with that little bit extra you are seeking, then look no futher than ...... SPOOTISKERRY !
